A seaside residence is situated along Shad Bay in Chebucto, Nova Scotia. The clients needed a new home for their growing family. They also wanted their home to reflect the vernacular of Nova Scotia architecture. The heart of this home was a two storey great room with a large stone hearth. The woodwork beams and posts were handcrafted using historic methods of construction while the remainder of the home was wood-framed construction. The owners wanted to be a bit playful so a reading nook was added to the second storey accessed only by a walkway across the great room. The exterior is weathered and lived in. It represents classic Nova Scotian design language updated for today and in keeping with the surrounding community.
